Screening of short films at l’École du Nord . 2014

Throughout the year, Porteurs d’Images collaborates with its partner establishments and NGOs to organize short film screenings in schools and other locations.

Given this framework, the association has very specific film programs, adapted to different (technical, thematical) needs, for screenings on the big screen for youth audiences.

Porteurs d’Images also :

coordonates plans for film professionals to interact directly with young people, whether it is to present films or host programming/curation, direction, technical workshops.
allows budding filmmakers to grow wings by helping them in the production of their films as well as inviting them to participate in the activities of the Île Courts- International Short Film Festival of Mauritius.

In the framework of the projects Archipelago of Cinemas, and in collaboration with the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, the Mauritius Institute of Education and the Lycée des Mascareignes, Porteurs d’Images association is putting forward the FOCUS JEUNES program, to train teachers in “Education in the Visual Image.”

The training in education in the visual image targets on-the-ground professionals who work with young people between 6-14:
. Teachers or student-tutors of the Mauritian public elementary school system.
. Teachers in NGOs.

In 2015 and 2016, the participants are taking part in a three-stage training process. Each session covers a full week. Following these, Porteurs d’Images association assures that the methods and techniques learned by the participants are applied to concrete projects by giving them access to documentation and pedagogical tools.

The training is very simple and open in its approach, allowing each professional to start working on projects with the young people around her/him as soon as possible. The trainee-participants will work on both documentaries and fiction films, long and short ones, keeping both Mauritius and the wider world in mind.

Goals

For teachers and educators:

. learn to use the visual image as a tool for and medium of learning,
. teach the young people with whom they work how to read and analyze visual images.

For young people:
. arouse their artistic curiosity and make them develop their personal taste ;
. offer them foundational knowledge of what cinema is ;
. train them to understand cinematographic langage and analyze images ;
. improve their capacity for critical thinking ;
. improve their access to local and regional audiovisual cultures

The Trainer : Jérôme Peyrel

Jérôme Peyrel is a high school teacher of French and Latin since 1999. He has also been, from 2005 to 2011, a literature tutor at the IUFM (Institut Universitaire de Formation des Maîtres).

In the framework of the program Lycéens au Cinéma and of the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, he has been hosting workshops on film analysis since 2005. He is also a program curator for the French selection of Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival.

Sauve qui Peut le Court Métrage (France) Antoine_lopez

Born in 1951 in Tassin, small Algerian village.
Trained in physics, chemistry and art history.
Co-founder and co-organizer of the Clermont-Ferrant Short Film Festival from 1979 to 2013.

Antoine Lopez has made three short films:
. Rodolfo Traviata, le film (fiction – 1981)
. Traverses (animation – 1985). Chosen for the Director’s Fortnight, bought by Canal+ and Arte. Traverses has been selected for the international tour “40 years of French animation,” an initiative of the Annecy Animation Festival and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
. Lieux communs (documentary essay – 2002)

When it comes to the graphic arts, Antoine Lopez works together with his wife Isabelle. Together, they produce mostly illustrations and posters for cultural events, which are signed with the pseudonym Bologo, like those for the festivals of Clermont-Ferrand (France) in 2000, Siena (Italy) 2005, Curtocircuito (Spain) 2009 and Valence (France) 2016.

Being an animation specialist, Antoine Lopez regularly gives lectures about animation techniques and animation documentaries.

He is also often on scriptreading committees (Charentes and Auvergne regions, Lagardère Foundation), arts consultancy boards for festivals or institutions (César Animations Committee), and other discussion and debate programs dealing with short animated films.
